Tangalle

Tangalle is 212 kilometers from Katunayake airport, approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes drive. There’s a row of beach restaurants close to the town, a couple of super-markets when you need them, a post-office, an open market for fresh vegetables and fruits, and hospitals near by.  

The beautiful Pallikudawa beach is 1 kilometer south-west from Tangalle town, and the exotic Goyambokka beach which is of a slightly different character, is about 2 kilometers away. It is less than a kilometer from Ehela which is about a 10 minute walk in the opposite direction to town, which is all there for you to soak up the sun. 

There are nearby lagoons for kayaking and discovering the unique fauna, admire the beautiful nature around and the paddy fields just outside the town.

You could plan day trips to the following places: 

• Mulkirigala monastery, about half hours drive and a climb over to a rock temple 
• The ancient fort of Galle, a town of it’s own and great character
• Weligama beach for learning to surf, in the shallow sea
• Wildlife parks of Yala and Udewalla, where the later has more of wild elephants
• Kataragama temple, famous among the Buddhist and some non-Buddhist as well
• Waterfalls and tea plantations in Ella and Neluwa
